Explore Maine's railroad history with your classroom at the museum! Complementing many aspects of 3rd & 4th grade curriculum - a school visit can be a useful teaching opportunity as well as a fun day out for a classroom. Maine had a unique system of two foot gauge railroads which operated from the 1880s to the 1940s. Transporting goods and passengers, these railways were an important part of the economic development of the interior of Maine. Children visiting as a part of a school visit can enjoy a train ride aboard historic rail cars, and explore exhibits and artifacts inside the museum. Our new scavenger hunt tour makes learning both educational and fun! We can accommodate most any size group and are handicap-accessible.
